EC - Eddie Costa on Spotify (II)

Eddie Costa, Newport Jazz Festival, Saturday, July 6, 1957.
From a picture by Burt Goldblatt.

What Am I Here For?", ambos inclusive).

A few weeks ago I built a playlist with everything I could find in Spotify featuring Eddie Costa, as I announced here. Users of this service can acceed the list through this address http://open.spotify.com/user/ferurbina/playlist/3JE9Y7DEFPguczr3sa8xJH.

The news is that it seems that Spotify has incorporated one or several "Andorran" labels (I haven't checked properly), and the Eddie Costa collection has grown enourmously. For starters, we now have his two trio albums, Eddie Costa-Vinnie Burke Trio (Jubilee, 1956) and The House of Blue Lights (Dot, 1959), which I strongly recommend, everything he recorded with Sal Salvador as a quartet, the complete recordings of the Hal McKusick-Art Farmer Quintet for Coral, four tracks with John Coltrane for the album Winners' Circle (Bethlehem, originally), two albums Mundell Lowe did for RCA covering TV theme tunes, several tracks with Manny Albam, Urbie Green, etc. The only problem is that this kind of reissues assign titles and artists to albums very liberally, and identifying the original albums becomes quite difficult. For instance, Barry Galbraith's Guitar and the Wind is there, but as part of Manhattan Jazz Septette, which in this particular reissue appeared under Oscar Pettiford's name for no reason I know of (it's the tunes between "Bull Market" and "What Am I Here For?", both inclusive.) As before, I've tried to lay the tunes chronologically.

In any case, the music is what matters, and the updated Eddie Costa playlist in Spotify is quite an upgrade.
